Emitwise automatically calculates Scopes 1, 2, and 3 once you upload your purchase data and basic operational details.
Introduction
Your Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) represents all the greenhouse gas emissions your organization produces, including Scopes 1, 2, and 3. The process in Emitwise automatically calculates all relevant scopes once you upload your purchase data and basic operational details.
Step-by-Step Guide
-
Go to Your Profile
- From your Emitwise dashboard, click Profile and go to Corporate Carbon Footprint.
- Locate the Financial reporting year and Emissions tiles.
- From your Emitwise dashboard, click Profile and go to Corporate Carbon Footprint.
-
Enter Your Financial Reporting Year
- Provide the end date for your most recently completed financial year.
- Example: If your financial year ended on March 31, 2024, enter 31/03/2024.
- This step unlocks the ability to add emissions data.
-
Prepare Your Purchase Data File
- Gather details on all purchases from your accounting system for the reporting period.
- Ensure your file contains:
- Purchase Date
- Spend Value
- Currency
- Country of Spend
- Spend Category
- These records enable Emitwise to calculate the upstream portion of your total carbon footprint (Scope 3), but the platform will also derive your Scope 1 and 2 emissions in the same process.
-
Upload Your Purchase Data
- Click Upload or Add File and select your purchase data file (CSV or Excel).
- If prompted, confirm the header row or column mapping so each field (Date, Spend Value, etc.) matches the correct column in your file.
-
Submit & Wait for Calculation
- After mapping your columns and reviewing your data, click Submit.
- Emitwise processes your entire carbon footprint, covering Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
- Depending on the volume of data, calculations may take a few minutes. Refresh the page or check back later for results.
- You’ll also see a banner explaining that your data is being automatically checked for data quality issues. This is normal and to be expected.
-
View Your Total Carbon Footprint
- Once the calculation is complete, you’ll see total emissions broken down by scope and spend category.
- Head to the Analyse / Emissions overview section to explore in-depth charts showing your CCF across all scopes.
- If you spot data flags or anything unusual, refer to Resolving Data Quality Issues in CCF or contact support.
Conclusion
You’ve successfully calculated your full Corporate Carbon Footprint using your purchase data. Even if your primary focus is on Scope 3 emissions, this single step computes everything needed for a holistic CCF. Use these insights to prioritize decarbonization efforts, respond to customer requests, or plan future reduction targets.
