Creating drill-drown visualisations

This guide shows you how to transform top-level charts into a deeper analysis of specific categories, facilities, or suppliers.

Introduction

Drill-down visualizations let you explore data in more detail by clicking a chart element—like a bar or pie slice—to apply it as a filter. This guide shows you how to transform top-level charts into a deeper analysis of specific categories, facilities, or suppliers.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Access Your Dashboard

    • From the top menu, go to Analyse > Emissions Overview.
    • Find a pie chart, bar chart, or other interactive visualization.
  2. Identify a Chart Segment

    • Hover over a pie slice or a bar that interests you. You’ll see its label and percentage (or total) appear.

  3. Click to Drill Down

    • Once clicked, Emitwise applies that segment as a filter across the entire dashboard.
    • All other charts or tables automatically update to show only data related to that selection (e.g., a specific scope or facility).

Common Issues/Tips

  • Tip: If you reach a very narrow dataset, double-check your filter panel to ensure you haven’t overly restricted the view.
  • Pitfall: Forgetting to remove unused filters might lead you to think your data is missing.

Conclusion

By drilling down on charts, you can quickly discover root causes or detailed breakdowns of your emissions. This makes it easy to spot outliers, compare specific segments, or answer targeted questions about your data.
