What data should I collect prior to starting to fill out the CBAM Communications Template?

Essential information for comprehensive CBAM reporting

Before you begin filling out the CBAM Communications Template, gather the following data:

  1. Installation details:
    • Full name and address of the installation
    • Economic activity description
    • UNLOCODE (if applicable)
    • Coordinates of the main emission source
  2. Reporting period information:
    • Start and end dates of the reporting period (typically a calendar year but for the transitional period it will be the most recently concluded quarter)
  3. Production data:
    • List of all CBAM goods and precursors produced within the installation
    • Production volumes for each good, broken down by production route if applicable
    • Details on goods produced for the market vs. consumed internally
  4. Emissions data:
    • Total direct CO2 emissions
    • Total indirect emissions from electricity consumption
    • Emissions from biomass (if applicable)
    • N2O and PFC emissions (if applicable)
    • Breakdown of emissions by source (e.g., fuel combustion, process emissions)
  5. Energy consumption data:
    • Fuel input for CBAM production processes
    • Fuel input for electricity production
    • Fuel input for non-CBAM processes
    • Electricity consumption for each production process
  6. Process-specific information:
    • Detailed production levels for each process
    • Direct and indirect emissions attributable to each process
    • Information on measurable heat imports/exports (if applicable)
    • Data on waste gases (if applicable)
    • Electricity exports from production processes (if applicable)
  7. Carbon pricing information:
    • Details of any carbon price paid in your country
  8. Methodological information:
    • Methods used for emissions monitoring (e.g., calculation-based, measurement-based)
    • Information on data quality assurance procedures
  9. Additional relevant data:
    • Information on precursors purchased from outside the installation
    • Details on any verification processes (if available)

By collecting this information in advance, you'll be well-prepared to complete the template accurately and efficiently. Remember to ensure all data corresponds to the same reporting period and is as up-to-date and accurate as possible.
