What is the Difference Between Absolute and Intensity Reduction Targets?

Choosing the right target type for your business.

There are two primary types of emissions reduction targets:

  • Absolute reduction targets: These focus on reducing your total emissions by a fixed percentage over time, aligned with climate science recommendations for overall emissions reductions.
  • Intensity reduction targets: These focus on reducing emissions relative to a specific business metric, such as emissions per unit of production or per unit of revenue.

Emitwise allows you to choose and validate either target type depending on your business needs. Both options can be aligned with SBTi criteria.
