What is the difference between CDP, EcoVadis and Emitwise? Is it necessary to be reporting to all three if our client is asking us to?

In the context of requests coming from your client, the key difference is that both CDP and EcoVadis would review your reports and rate your data submissions, whereas Emitwise would support your company in measuring and reducing your emissions.

If requested by your client, you should report your data to both EcoVadis and CDP. Below, you will find a description of what these three organisations do.

Emitwise

Emitwise is a carbon management software provider working with your client to support you (as a supplier) to measure and reduce your emissions. When submitting data to Emitwise, we will also provide you and your client with a data quality score.

This score helps your client understand how reliable the data you have provided is with respect to understanding their own emissions. This score will also help you understand where you can provide higher-quality data to Emitwise to reduce the uncertainty in your emissions assessment.

This data quality score provided by Emitwise has no bearing on your CDP or EcoVadis scores. It is there for you to understand how you can reduce the uncertainty in your emissions result. However, the calculation methodologies you report to use when reporting to the CDP or EcoVadis might impact your CDP score or EcoVadis rating.

CDP

CDP is an international non-profit organisation that helps companies and cities disclose their environmental impact. While reporting to the CDP is voluntary, disclosures may be required for some companies by their clients.

CDP accredits leading environmental service providers around the world to help disclosing organizations find high-quality support as they transition to environmental leadership. Emitwise is a gold-accredited CDP provider.

Reporting to the CDP has no bearing on the work you do with Emitwise, as Emitwise is first helping you calculate your emissions. This data could be used at a later stage to report to the CDP.

EcoVadis

EcoVadis is one of the world’s largest and most trusted providers of business sustainability ratings.

When reporting to EcoVadis (at the request of your client), the data you submit is rated, and you are given a score. When reporting emissions data, you can use the results generated by the Emitwise platform.

EcoVadis rewards suppliers who measure their emissions. Therefore, participating in this program with Emitwise will give you the data you need to report to EcoVadis. If you are not already measuring your emissions, this could improve your EcoVadis rating.
